In March, we will be running ongoing coverage of the effects of Omicron on the health and nursing workforce, particularly aged care and Māori; and the role of nurses in leading the vaccination rollout in the fight against COVID-19. We’ll also be launching a new professional development video feature, which in March will focus on assisted dying and nursing practice.

In February we examine the road ahead across nursing sectors as the COVID-19 Omicron variant looms for the nation. We also examine the impact of the ongoing pandemic on student graduate numbers, and Māori health.  Plus we talk to nurses who are at the sharp end of the efforts to protect Aotearoa – our vaccination nurses. It all comes as NZNO district health board (DHB) members get to vote on ratifying an in-principle agreement on pay equity with DHBs. What does this mean? We also focus on the challenges of preparing nursing graduates to work in a regional setting.

The focus for the November issue is aged care. We will cover an aged care system in crisis; COVID vaccination misinformation; managing health and safety in hospitals amid a pandemic as well as the role of nurses in foot care and the significance of getting end of life right, as the new end of life care act comes into force (Nov 7).

The issue will also include an education advertising supplement.

October features coverage of the 2021 NZNO conference including an interview with new NZNO president Anne Daniels, the young nurse of the year and other award winners as well as cultural safety in nursing, what nurses need to know about the incoming end of life law and the role of nurses in climate change. We’ll also bring you the latest in the district health board pay negotiations.

This month we’ll be looking at how our members put strike action on hold to return to the pandemic frontline, particularly our Pacific nurses and caregivers whose communities have been the hardest hit.  We also feature extensive coverage of the Indigenous Nurses Aotearoa Conference 2021, which drew extraordinary speakers from around Aotearoa to share inspiration with our Māori healthcare workers; as well as a new nursing degree with mental health at its core and a nurse’s warning on the perils of Twitter.
